Aeroclam – Tube information
700 x 20/23/25 tube & 48 mm stem with Lezyne Inflator. This smaller Lezyne inflator fits well in the Aeroclam content allowing the Clam to close easily
700 20/23/25 tube with 60mm stem – Lezyne inflator must be used with 60mm stem as there’s no space for the slightly larger inflators due to the extra space used with the 60mm stem. Note the rubber band lengthwise to slightly compress tube
700 x 18/25 Turbo Tubes and Co2 Canister. Very tight squeeze and at the expense of not being able to fit the Inflator
Rubber is a great nullifier of noise. Put those old tubes to good use & cut a length of mountain bike tube slightly longer than the CO2 canister and slide it over as a sheath.
A length of mountain bike tube works perfectly over the slimline multitool to prevent rattling. Make sure there is enough overlap either end to run slightly up the wall of the clam preventing the multitool from slipping out and rattling in motion. Our supplied rubber spacer will not be required if tube is used over the multitool as shown. This is also a useful ending to an old used tube.

Universal Saddle Fitting – It’s been challenging making a ‘one fits all’ universal Aeroclam and we had to make two top sections of the clam to accommodate the majority of road bike seat brands and models on the market. The two top sections of the calm are defined by P1 and P2 and the difference is the shape and contour to fit the multitude of seat brands and models. Actually, these two P1 and P2 model Aeroclams won’t fit all seat brands. They’ll fit a large percentage of road bike seats but not the FIZIK Aronie brand and a few others. We have a cool prototype specifically designed for the FIZIK Aronie model and this is our next product to go into production. Check out Seats Fitted to see what seats we’ve fitted the Aeroclam P1 to.
The Latch – When designing this rubber latch, it was realized it also had to deflect the blast of water from the rear tire that targeted the 50 – 60mm part line area at the rear of the Aeroclam forcing it’s way into the storage area. The latch also had to be strong and durable in composition, UV resistant, easy to operate open/close, and fix securely as to not pop open in the harshest road conditions. We used the ‘button over’ system to accommodate these attributes. Even if one latch button isn’t secured correctly by the user, the remaining button will hold the Aeroclam’s content from spilling onto the road. When testing the durability of the latch, one of the tests was to slide the latch eyelets over the buttons over 500 times. This equates to 250 punchers and the rubber held it composition perfectly. We also wanted to test the UV resistance of the rubber used on the latch so on November 13’ when we received the first batch of rubber latches I mounted one to a clam and sat it outside in the fierce north facing New Zealand UV sun [It’s still there August 2014]. It’s perfect after nearly a year of being exposed to nature’s elements. The average expensive road bike would never have this sort of UV exposure unless parked in direct apartment/garage sunlight.
Mounting – The Aeroclam is secured to the seat rails by a tough reinforced glass filled nylon clamp and attached by a single 5mm cap screw that threads into a captive Nylock Nut mounted within the reinforced clamp. There are rubber pads attached to the ends of the clamp for great ‘bind’ on the saddle rails. These stop any ‘slipping’ of the Aeroclam from it’s correct mounting position while in operation. The saddle rails also seat into rubber pads mounted in the top section of the clam so are effectively ‘sandwiched’ in rubber. Rubber mounting gives excellent protection to the saddle rails, especially Carbon Rails.
1.5mm Injection Molded Plastic – Although very expensive to make injection molds, High Impact Plastic was the obvious choice of material for product application being strong and light. There are a number of grades plastic to consider too and generally the heaver the tougher. We were always weight conscious in Plastic choice/design so chose a good quality tough grade plastic with an acceptable weight factor. Plastic is also waterproof, UV resistant, easy to clean and can be molded to almost any shape required. If somehow water does enter the Aeroclam, it won’t stay sodden like the canvas saddle bags. There is also ample drainage via holes on the underside lowest points to allow efficient drainage. Drainage was a priority consideration before designing the Aeroclam to be waterproof.
Rattling – Packed correctly the Aeroclam won’t rattle. The use bike tubes over the multitool and inflator [as in imagery above] will nullify any rattling.
Saddle Bags are mostly a necessity. Therefore they should perform & look as good as the bikes they’re mounted on.
Aeroclam & mounting hardware. We supply tire levers, rubber spacer pad to place between the multitool and levers + spacing wedges.

The partline of the clam has a weather ridge to prevent water entering the clam.
We designed good drainage into the clam before even thinking about designing it to be watertight.
The rubber latch is a quick, secure & strong alternative to the awkward and sometimes troublesome zippers. It’s also replaceable should it ever fail.
On some model saddles there is room for water to get between the clam and the saddle, however water cannot enter the mounting.
Bodily clearance as seen here on the underside was a early design priority on all saddles.
The clamp also has rubber pads to bind the saddle rails top and bottom.
We’ve seated the saddle rails in rubber pads to increase bind & stop any clam slippage in operation. The rubber pads also protect the carbon rails.
The mounting clamp is made from very tough glass filled nylon with structural ribbing for added strength.
The hinge does raise a few questions to the unfamiliar but it’s very strong and slides into the cups from the side.

There was much R&D to get the Aeroclam to be as universal as possible. It won’t fit FIZIK’s Arione but we’re working on that now.
